In order to be successful in anything in life you will surely need to build discipline. Sometimes in life we teach ourselves some very bad habits. This can usually occur in all stages in life however the time this happens the most is during college or just after college. We tend to put things off until the last minute and in each time doing so we are building a bad habit called procrastination. In time we will find ourselves not wanting to do anything at all because we are used to being lazy.

How to gain discipline to workout

If you want to succeed in bodybuilding you will have to develop your self-discipline. Skipping a day here and there will surely lead to you giving up completely and just wasting your time.

Am I born with discipline?

Most people believe that you are born either disciplined or not. However this is not the case discipline is a skill and not something you are born with. Discipline can be learned.  If you understand this you can work on building up this skill and in essence master your life. Discipline is one of the key skills if not the most important factor to gaining success in your life.

How do I build discipline?

One of the first things to do is to become aware that you are not disciplined. You will need to start listening to your inner voice. What do you tell yourself when you are about to skip a workout or just before eating a big piece of cake? Do you tell yourself its only piece? Do you tell yourself that one time won’t make a difference?

This critical moment is the precise moment where you build your discipline or fail yourself. Learn to say NO to yourself. Each and every time you conquer your inner voice and do what you know is best for you, you will build you self-discipline. Self-discipline is not built easily though. It’s best to start with small things.

How to gain discipline to workout

The best way to break a bad habit is to do a new habit replacing the bad one for 30 days. Set yourself the challenge to work out for 30 days without skipping. If you can’t manage to do this try at least 10 days and work your way up.

Can you lose discipline?

Yes of course you can. As I mentioned above when we start putting things off even little things it escalates into putting off bigger and bigger things. You constantly need to push yourself in order to gain and maintain your discipline. Always remember it is very easy to lose your discipline, but you can build it step by step and do harder and harder things as time proceed. You will be amazed at what you can achieve by building self-discipline.

As I mentioned before discipline is the key to your success. Use it or lose it is the best way to describe it. You can decide: live by the pain of discipline and be happy or live by the pain of depression and failure.
