All I want to do is dance dance dance

What do you think of dancing? Me? I think I fall perfectly in to the 'two left feet' category of dancers. I have a good sense of rhythm but lack and body coordination to move to the music in a way that doesn't resemble a frog in a blender. And I'm clumsy. Really clumsy. But nonetheless, I love it. I love letting the rhythm, take control of my body and I love letting go. Luckily, I'm not easily embarrassed because I would probably never show my face on the dance floor again.

All I want to do is dance dance dance

Okay, enough about my (lack of) dancing skills. Dancing is the latest craze in fitness routines, don't you think? And why not? It's a great way to sculpt your body and if you incorporate some sort of cardio action to it, it's a great way to burn calories too.The past few gyms I've belonged to have offered a long list of dancing classes. From hip-hop to belly dancing to salsa to swing to ballet to African-inspired dances, these classic moves are being incorporated into everyday workouts and it's easy to see why -- they make working out fun, motivating and good for your self-esteem. I took a strippercize class a few years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did, for my body AND my self-image. And according to this, taking up a dance program has similar benefits to a jogging program, plus with the added benefit of chiseling the muscles you use most, like you legs and bum.

In fact, the modern concept of dancing for fitness has been around for so long that classes like hip-hop cardio are no longer a novelty -- they're old news, and now in competition with brand-spanking new dance classes, like Capoeira, Masala Bhangra, Belly Dancing, jazz, Salsa and even two-stepping. Gone are the American-style aerobics -- Globally-influenced classes are all the rage these days.

Of course, there's the issue of having your limbs flail around sporadically and embarrassingly in front of strangers, and while I'm inclined to tell you to suck it up and join a class already, I know that some people actually have some shame and are just too self-conscious to don the fitness gear and go to class. For you, there are plenty of DVDs to be found everywhere , so you can do it from home. You can even try that Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii. But I do really recommend taking a class -- Laughing with your classmates and enjoying their company is truly half the fun.

Are you a dancing fiend? Or a klutz like me?
